What is the John Deere VTG Valve?
VTG valves are mechanisms that allow you to adjust the angle of inclination of the turbocharger blades. Thanks to this, it is possible to adjust the efficiency of the turbocharger to the requirements of the engine in various conditions. VTG valves are usually controlled by the engine control unit (ECU), which receives signals from various sensors, such as air pressure and temperature, and adjusts the operation of the VTG valves for optimum engine performance.
How does the controller, VTG valve work?
A traditional turbocharger has a fixed vane shape, which means that the angle of inclination remains constant. VTG valves change this paradox by allowing the angle of the blades to be adjusted according to the needs of the engine. This allows the exhaust gas flow through the turbocharger to be controlled, which is critical to optimizing performance.
At low engine speeds, the VTG valves can be set to a shallower angle, which increases exhaust velocity and allows the turbocharger to spin faster. This translates into greater torque and engine flexibility, which is especially important when starting from a standstill or driving in hilly terrain.
At higher engine speeds, the VTG valves can be set to a greater angle, which reduces exhaust velocity and ensures proper turbocharger efficiency. This allows for more power at higher revs, which is beneficial when driving dynamically on the highway or overtaking other vehicles.
